CHANGING AND MANAGING BEHAVIOUR

Behavioural consultations are available for owners with "problem dogs". Problems however, are usually normal canine behaviour which is unacceptable to us, or inappropriate in a human environment.

Behavioural consultations are by appointment only. Please contact me for an initial informal discussion regarding your dog's behaviour.

There is often no clear dividing line between a "behavioural" problem and a "training" problem, and resolving a problem can take the form of behavioural modification, good management techniques and reward based training procedures.

What can be a problem to some owners and families, may not present a problem to other owners. Indeed differences in opinion about a dog's behaviour may exist between family members or co-owners.

It can also be helpful for owners to discuss the variations in canine behaviour that are all within the description of "normal". Owner expectations, can vary too. A more realistic understanding about a dog's behaviour can remove stress from the dog and help repair the bond between dog and owner.

Punishment of any kind is never used and owners are taught how to understand their dogs' behaviour, and how to use preventative techniques, alongside reward based training, using sound scientifically based principles.
