You may find it interesting to look back at the origins of dog training classes. Training,
as we know it, probably began during the first world war when dogs were
used to carry messages through minefields and other dangerous places.
They were also used as guards and to detect the wounded and flush out
snipers. These War Dogs were trained in much the same way as the soldiers.
Those who did not fit in with this style of training could be discarded
- after all this was wartime.
From
these early beginnings dog training classes for the general public began
to appear and they were based on the same style of military training.
Later, Obedience Competition became popular, as did Working Trials, which was then followed by Agility in the form of competition, Flyball and Dancing With Dogs.
The US devised similar competitions, and the exciting "Rally O".
Whether you are interested in training your dog for any style of competition, or just building a better relationship with your pet, traditional training methods are now being slowly replaced by positve reward based training with hugely successful results. |
